Protest United Airlines’ Plan to Surcharge Baggage

United Airlines has announced a plan to impose a $25 surcharge on all pieces of baggage above one, beginning on 5 May 2008. This means that anyone carrying skis on a trip will be subject to a $50 fee per round trip. If we protest hard enough, there is a possibility, though maybe a remote one, that we can persuade them to reverse their decision.

I am writing to protest your announced decision to impose a $25 surcharge on all pieces of baggage above one. I am a skier and obviously carry skis with me on my trips. Your plan will make my trips on United more expensive than those on other airlines, and so of course you can understand that, should you impose it, I will never again be able to choose United for my trips. Please acknowledge receipt of this email, and tell me whether you actually do intend to move ahead with this plan, which is so destructive of the good will you have built up over the years.
